PhotoShop in the Eyes of The Media

What do you feel is the “ideal body type” that the magazines portray for women?

The “Ideal body type” that magazines prtray is that woman have to have a flat, athletic somach, big boobs, tan, no blemishes or pimples. with perfect skin, and mostly blonde. For men the “ideal body type” is that men have to be muscular, tall, perfect skin, white teeth and handsome.

What is your definition of “perfection”

My definition of “perfection” very complicated. To i dont believe in the word “perfect” because it is impossible for someone or something to be perfect. Everyone has problems, and it just all about being happy with what you have and who you are as a person.

Has there ever been something about your body or features that you wanted to alter?  Why? (you do not have to be specific.)

  • Oh my gosh yes. Almost every teenager hates something about themselves. FOr my it was always my height and my legs. I have always been made fun of being my legs are skinny so i would always wear long pants so no one could see my legs but as i grew up i learned that not everyone is perfect and to embrace my long legs which is what i do!
  • Have your thoughts on celebrities changed?  Are they as “perfect” as you think they are? I hae always known about photoshop and that the people in the magazines were touched up. Everyone has blemishes and not perfect by any means.
  • Have your thoughts on Photoshop changed? No, i knew all about photoshop. Some thing about photoshop is good but showing that no one is prefect is better. I like showing what i really look like instead of looking like something im not. People can love or hate my imperfections but i am not going to look fake. I love who i am and what I look like, God created me like this and i would never change it.

    MIT Prank Brings Bomb Squad

On April 25th 2009 in Cambridge Massachusetts, the bomb squad was called to Massachusetts Institute of Technology due to a suspicious black object to what looked like a bomb, but was instead a black block of cement posted as a prank for a  dance party on campus. The group called, Burton Third Bombers, that was holding the party. Although they told the campus security at 3 a.m. sources say they did not and called the fire department which then called The Massachusetts Bomb Squad. The Burton Third Bombers issued an apology to the Bomb Squad on Friday. There will be a fee for the brining in of the Bomb Squad but they did not recite as to how much they and to pay. Some of the students not involved in the prank think it us “unfair” they have to pay part of the fee.“It’s really kind of a gray area as to who is responsible for this, what was frankly an over reaction to a piece of cement sitting in the middle of a field,” Steinbrecher said”.

    Childhood Obesity

Everywhere across America, Children are becoming more obese.”The percentage of overweight children in the United States is growing at an alarming rate, with 1 out of 3 kids now considered overweight or obese.” as told by http://www.kidshealth.org.”Obesity is defined as an excessive accumulation of body fat. Obesity is present when total body weight is more than 25 percent fat in boys and more than 32 percent fat in girls (Lohman, 1987)”.

In this article the researchers will be talking about childhood onesity at the age of Four, and how to help your child if they are indeed obese how  to stop th eobesity and help their child eat in small amounts and eat healthier. Their are many reasons why childhood obesity occurs.

Reason number one is not exercising. exercising and staying active in a child’s life is very important. We need to keep our children healthy and safe. Another reason for childhood obesity is not feeding the children right. Giving them fattening and greasy foods in such large amounts is not good at all. If the children are obese they are exposed to having many types of different health issues when they grow up which could affect their daily lives.

Some risks for children experiencing obesity include:

    • type 2 diabetes

    • being teased, bullied, or rejected by peers (even as early as preschool)
    • low self-esteem (often from being teased, bullied, or rejected by peers)
    • depression
    • substance abuse
    • suicidal thoughts

    ( as shown by http://www.kidshealth.org/research/obesity_plateau.html)

Children in todays society especially are struggling with obesity. Many of them are being made fun of and tortured for it. We need to make and effort to stop childhood obesity. As the rate of obesity rapidly increases every year, we need to make a difference and help them. Just one person can do it. So lets start helping.

    The Prince of Geraldi

You are in your bed trying to fall asleep. You flip from left to right and stare at the ceiling for a while.  Everything about your day is being replayed in your mind and you would give anything to just fall asleep to escape to la la land.  Out of no where, something hits you in the forehead.  Unsure of what it is, you spring up and scan the room for anyone or anything.  As you go to grab the flash light that you have hidden under your bed,a little voice greets you with a “hello”.  You answer, “Who’s here?  Who are you?  Where are you?”  The little voice says, “I am Nathan Alexander , and I am the prince of Geraldi. I am down here”  You look down, and you still cannot see where this little voice is coming from.  “I apologize, but I think I’m going crazy.  Where are you?”  All of a sudden you feel something that hits you on your chin.  Your eyes focus on your chin and you and notice a little man standing on your face.”

“Why are you on my face?”, I asked, and he replied “Well I am small, as you can see so I thought you would best see me up close.” As I put the light on I walked to my dresser and we began to talk. I asked him; “So why are you here?” He looked up at me and laughed; “I need your help.” Puzzled, I said “Why?” and he then said that his father is trying to marry him off to a princess in which he does not love. He then began telling me the story of why he is so small, and that a witch cursed him, because he did not marry her daughter and cursed him with being to tiny. He said he was taking me to Geraldi to win against the evil witch. We went to Geraldai his white stallion horse and met the queen the same night. I explained everything to her and then he cursed me with being tiny too! As the years went by me and the prince became very close, so close as to even get married. It turned out that true love broke the curse so me and Nathan were regular sized. He became King of Geraldi and I became the Queen and we lived happily ever after, just like in all the fairy tales.

What Or Who Could it have Been?

“Just like everyday, I woke up feeling tired and confused As I was trying to motivate myself to get out of bed, a flash light caught my eye . As the light began to memorize my face, I realized there was someone or something there. My curiosity began to fly as I had only ever imagined these colors in my dreams. I jumped out of bed and walked slowly up to my window. I reached my hand out to unfold the secret the rest of the curtain was hiding. As I gently began to pull the rest of the curtain to the left, I was blinded by this light. Stunned, I fell back and rubbed my eyes. As my sight came back both curtains now closed off the light. I walked back up to the window and with no reservations, I opened the curtains with both hands and saw a figure of someone. It looked like an angel. I was absolutely memorized by all of the colors and the figure standing before me. The figure looked like a woman. As I got closer, I started to see the woman and all of her Characteristics. her dark hair glowing, her hazel eyes, and her smile. It was familiar to me; like i had seen it everyday but didn’t know who this woman was. As she reached from her pocket she took out a picture of a little girl. I had seen that picture before and then realized it was my mother in the photo as a baby. As my eyes widened I realized who this woman was. It was my grandmother. She looked radiant. she was glowing and looked like an angel. She told me to always love, to never regret, and to open my heart to wonderful things. The most important thing she told me was that she watches over my mom and me everyday and is always keeping us in her heart. She said to tell my mother that she will always and forever love her, and that she is okay. As I hugged her my eyes began to close with happiness and tears began to roll down my eyes. When I opened my eyes, I saw myself in my bed.  It turned out to be a dream, but it was the best dream I had ever had.

    Always and Forever

As you are walking down Main street, you see a mysterious, smiling old man with a Saint Mary hat on.  You continue to walk on your path and happen to glance in his direction again for you fell that maybe you know him.  In the matter of second, he is across the street.  Bewildered by this, you do a double take and the man is gone.   You keep walking trying to think of what just happened and refocus on the path in front of you.  As your eyes meet his, you now know there is something magical about this man.  You think to yourself, “How could he ever move that fast, and now he is standing in front of me?”  Without him saying a word, he takes off his hat and I notice something familiar about this man. His face, his eyes, his outfit. Something about him just felt so real, yet so unreal. We were just standing there on the sidewalk looking at each other. As I was just staring, he smiled and when he spoke I instantly knew who he was. It was my uncle Jim. I was shocked and confused because early in the year my uncle died from Pancreatic cancer. I had thought I’d gone crazy for sure, so I closed my eyes and just before I opened them I wished he’d go away, but he didn’t.  In my mind I was saying a million things, but i couldn’t get them out, and verbalize it. The first thing he said to me was “Don’t be scared.” He then started to talk to me but I just kept thinking “He’s dead.” As he was talking I interrupted and said, “How? How are you here.” He then replyed with “Nicole, I am here because of you.” I was so scared and nervous and confused that I had to sit down.  I then asked him why? “Did I do something wrong?”He told me no and then proceeded to talk.  I asked him if he was okay and he said yes  I am. I feel so much better then I did before. He told me about what Heaven was like. I asked him what he was doing here and why so he said he was here to protect me and my family. My family has been really close with the Claffe’s  so for long that his daughter and I were born about 12 hours apart. We grew up together and were always doing the same sports, until we moved away that we never really talked again. Until my uncle died my mother and his wife started to really talk again, and he said that his funeral made my  Aunt Joan and my mom friends again. He told me that he watches over his family and watches over us. He told me to be strong in whatever I accomplish and to always follow my dreams. Then he pulled  out a picture of when Noelle and I were born and Jim and my dad holding us. It really brought me to tears and showed how much he cared. I will never forget him. Rest In Peace. I Love You “Cha.”
